Statement from the Horn of African Somali Community in Ireland press  released Board members , HACNI  , Dublin

The Horn of African  Somali community in Ireland is deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific attack on innocent children and their carer in Dublin City on the afternoon of November 23rd, 2023. We unequivocally condemn the heinous actions of the lone perpetrator who inflicted such senseless violence on these vulnerable individuals.

The attack on these children, as they left their place of safety and learning, is an assault on the very innocence of childhood. It is an act of unspeakable cruelty that has left our community reeling in grief and disbelief.

We are deeply grateful to the brave individuals who intervened to prevent further harm, putting themselves at risk to protect the children and their carer. Their actions are a testament to the humanity that still exists in the world, even in the face of such evil.

We are particularly moved by the heroism of the children’s carer, who acted instinctively to save her young charges, even at the risk of her own life. Her bravery is an inspiration to us all.

Our hearts go out to the children who were injured in this attack, their families, and the entire school community. We pray for their recovery and offer our unwavering support during this difficult time.

We urge the authorities to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice swiftly and without leniency. We also call for a thorough investigation into the attack to determine the factors that led to this tragedy and to ensure that such an event never happens again.

As a community, we stand united in our condemnation of this violence. We will not be divided by fear or hatred. Instead, we will come together in solidarity and support, offering our strength and love to those affected by this tragedy.

May peace prevail.
