A major social welfare change is on the way for workers who lose their jobs-as they could receive pay up to nine months.
Minister Heather Humphreys is bringing the memo to the Cabinet on Tuesday where she will set out her plan for pay-related benefits, reports the Irish Independent. The plan involves a three-stage process taking place over nine months.
The first phase would see unemployed workers receiving 60 per cent of their previous earnings up to€450 per week for the first three months. The payment will go down to 55 per cent of earnings or up to €375 per week for a further three months

Those out of work for nine months will be paid at 50 per cent of the previous earnings capped at €300. After the nine months is over, they can apply for Jobseeker’s Allowance at €220 which is set to rise by €12 in January 2024.
